We are seeking a visionary and commercially astute General Manager to lead Airshows Ltd through its next chapter of growth and innovation.

Job Description – General Manager
Organisation: Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshows Limited
Location: Wanaka, Otago
Reports To: Chairperson, Board of Directors
Role description: Independent contractor
Position Purpose
The General Manager is responsible for the strategic leadership, operational management, and financial performance of Warbirds Over Wanaka Airshows Limited (Warbirds), including the biennial Warbirds Over Wanaka International Airshow. This role ensures the delivery of world-class experiences while maintaining strong governance, stakeholder engagement, and community impact.
Given the nature of Airshows’ operations, ensuring engagement and compliance with health and safety requirements is a key focus of the General Manager’s role.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
· Lead the development and execution of strategic plans in collaboration with the Board
· Provide regular reporting on progress, risks, and opportunities
· Coordinate and facilitate Board meetings, ensuring timely distribution of reports and follow-up on action items
Financial Management
· Develop and manage annual budgets, forecasts, and business plans
· Ensure financial targets are met and reported accurately
· Maximise revenue through sponsorships, grants, and commercial partnerships
· Maintain compliance with delegated financial authority
Event & Operational Oversight
· Oversee planning and delivery of the biennial Airshow and other associated events
· Manage relationships with contractors, suppliers, and performers
· Negotiate appearance fees and service contracts to ensure value and quality
· Ensure operational excellence and risk mitigation across all activities
Marketing & Commercial Development
· Drive innovative marketing strategies locally and internationally
· Promote the Airshow’s community and economic benefits
· Strengthen brand presence and audience engagement across platforms
Stakeholder & Relationship Management
· Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders including QLDC, QAC, RNZAF, RAAF, USAF, Tourism NZ, and media.
· Represent Warbirds in industry forums and with political leaders
· Foster collaboration with aircraft owners, aviation organisations, and funding bodies
Trust Administration
· Manage activities of the Warbirds Over Wanaka Community Trust as delegated
· Oversee trust investments, donations, and reporting
Health & Safety
· Ensure compliance with all relevant health and safety legislation
· Promote a strong safety culture and continuous improvement
· Report material risks and incidents to the Board promptly
